Pupil Employment Scheme

At Leigh Academy Oaks, our commitment as an IB PYP school shines through in initiatives like our Pupil Employment Scheme, enabling pupils to take action within their immediate community. This programme is all about fostering personal development and nurturing the whole child, giving our pupils hands-on opportunities to contribute to our vibrant school community and cultivating essential skills for life.

Imagine pupils taking on roles like photographers and reporters, documenting school life; well-being ambassadors and playpals, utilising their social skills to support others; or even delivery operatives, ensuring daily fresh fruit and milk deliveries. Every position helps children develop crucial IB Learner Profile Attributes. It’s a truly reciprocal experience: pupils gain invaluable employment skills and confidence, while actively contributing to a supportive school environment.

This year, we’re thrilled to extend these opportunities to Year 2 pupils – a first for the scheme! Our decision was driven by strong Pupil Voice; many Year 2 children expressed a genuine desire to take on responsibilities and help others. We believe facilitating this early ambition and engagement is a vital part of their personal growth journey.

The application process mirrored real-world scenarios, with every child submitting an application and undergoing an interview, receiving formal written communication about their success. As a reward for their hard work, pupils choose their preferred ‘payment’ at the end of their term, with past choices ranging from movie afternoons to ice cream parties.

We are immensely proud of our pupils’ dedication and the profound impact they have on our school community, embodying responsibility and developing critical skills every step of the way.

This picture is a poster for the "Pupil Employment Scheme" at Leigh Academy Oaks. The poster features a clean, modern design with a primary color scheme of white, green, and brown, along with touches of red. The top left corner has a logo with acorns and leaves. The poster outlines three different roles available within the scheme, each with a brief description and an encouragement to apply: Porter/Delivery Operative: This role asks if the applicant is "helpful and reliable" and can "problem solve and work well as part of a team." The description mentions delivering resources, fruit, and milk to correct locations. Reporter: This role is for someone who enjoys "using your communication skills by talking and listening to others." It also asks if the applicant would like to "have a wider impact with your voice and share the latest news from school by writing and recording news." Photographer: This role is for someone with a "creative eye and a keen attention to detail." The responsibilities include "capturing learning moments in classrooms as well as assemblies and school events." It explicitly states, "Training is provided." Each role section is separated by a dashed line, and the poster is adorned with whimsical illustrations of acorns in various shades of green and brown, some with small arms and legs, carrying items like books or microphones, reinforcing the school-based, pupil-focused nature of the scheme. The overall tone is inviting and encouraging for students to participate.
This image is the second page of the "Pupil Employment Scheme" poster for Leigh Academy Oaks. It maintains the same visual style as the first page, with a white background, green and brown acorn illustrations, and the academy's logo at the top left. This page outlines two additional roles available in the scheme: Lunch Staff: This section targets students who might be "looking for a career in catering and hospitality." It asks if the applicant is "welcoming, friendly and supportive" and encourages them to "Join our lunch time team and support pupils during mealtimes." Well-Being Ambassador: This role is for students who "want to make a difference" and have a "passion for making your school a happy and supportive place for all." It also asks if the applicant "help to solve problems and build friendships?" The description invites "caring, principled and enthusiastic Well-Being Ambassadors to join our team!" Similar to the first page, each role is presented with an acorn illustration that symbolically relates to the job (e.g., an acorn with a plate for "Lunch Staff," and an acorn holding an apple for "Well-Being Ambassador"). Dashed lines separate the sections, keeping the layout consistent and easy to read.
