Reading is at the heart of our curriculum. Our classrooms have well stocked libraries that the children access throughout the day, and we have a large library for the whole school community to use too.
Reading is taught daily in a variety ways, including individual reading, group reading and whole class reading.
Reading books are sent home on Mondays and Fridays. We use books from a range of schemes including Collins Big Cat and Engage Literacy. The books are sent home with a reading record book which acts as a dialogue between home and school. In addition to the banded reading books that are sent home, the children visit the school library each week to borrow a book of their choice. Parents are also welcome to use the library and this can be arranged by speaking with class teachers, our school librarian (Iryna Sysyuk) or Mrs Rawling (English Lead).
We have awards for children reading books at home. The table below explains this further:
Books Read Award
10 books Reading Hero sticker
25 books Reading Champion certificate
50 books Reading Ambassador badge
75 books Certificate from the Governors
